Friends of the Park

The Williamsfield Parks Board is a cooperative membership of several different civic groups, all with interests in the Williamsfield parks, especially the largest, Doubet-Benjamin Park, a 30+ acre property used for festivals, social gatherings, recreation, & nature-watching.  The group re-established themselves in 2014 with the purpose of jump-starting some maintenance & improvement projects, some new additions to draw visitors & area residents, +work on some long term planning to ensure the park health & aesthetics for many years to come.

The current groups with representation include: the Lighting of the Park gals, the Friends of the Park Coffee Shop, the Williamsfield Garden Club, the Williamsfield mapping committee(s), the Williamsfield FFA Alumni Assoc., & the Williamsfield Wranglers.

All individuals & groups who utilize any of the area parks are welcome to join us, with meetings the last Tuesday of every month at the Williamsfield Fire Station.

If nothing else, go enjoy Williamsfield Parks!!!

PARKS & RECREATION:

Williamsfield has 3 village-maintained parks within village limits, but no taxing park district. The parks are
maintained by the village maintenance department, with help from many local volunteers & students from
the local Community Unit School District #210, who help to plant flowers in the spring, clean flower beds
& re-mulch throughout the year. Additionally, they plant vegetables and flowers in a community garden
and string an impressive display of Christmas lights in the winter in our biggest park, Doubet Benjamin
Park.

DOUBET-BENJAMIN PARK

Doubet-Benjamin Park is a fairly young park, established with memorialized money in 1985. The park
itself is xx acres, and features a walking path, sitting areas, including a gazebo, benches, & a large picnic
pavilion, a horse/showing arena and bleechers, and many trees, shrubs, & flower gardens. In the 1990’s
a retired Vietnam helicopter was donated & memorialized. There have been a few different
park boards in the past who have come together to accomplish certain goals & ensure growth in Doubet-
Benjamin Park and have been very instrumental in getting playground equipment purchased and installed

VETERANS’ PARK

Veterans Park is situated in the middle of Williamsfield’s downtown area and is the Village’s oldest park.
This park has seen a lot of transformation in its existence, but one staple that has been consistent is the
old bandstand that has stood in the middle of the park for many years. Festivals and meetings have been
held here for years. As the American Legion became a more recognized and prominent organization
within Williamsfield, Veterans Park has become a home for memorialized monuments for our servicemen
and women.

LIONS PARK

Some of Williamsfield’s locals don’t even realize this park’s existence, but the kids sure do. Lions Park
is a long grassy park that will actually handle a good third of the town’s rain/surface water when we get
heavy rains. It borders residential areas on 3 sides, but is equipped with benches & street trees & makes for a great sledding place for the kids in the winter time.
